(English is below)

Four Wind Players at the Crossroads of Sound

(Japanese is above)

This event came about through a connection from art space tetra, which I co-ran until April 2026. I was contacted by someone with whom I had previously worked on a booking there, and that led to the idea of organizing this event.

This autumn, Elena Kakaliagou, a French horn player based in Berlin, will be visiting Fukuoka.

At first, we decided to have Elena perform on French horn together with me, Yuji Nakamura, on bass clarinet.

As I thought more about the combination, I felt that it would be interesting to bring together four wind players and create a kind of “crossroads of sound.” This led me to invite Ryo Uchida, a trombonist, and Sido Tanimoto, a shakuhachi player, to join us.

Ryo is currently based in Tokyo. When I invited him to participate, he readily agreed, saying that he would also plan some performances in Fukuoka around this visit.

Sido has recently started a new band, and told me that it had been quite some time since he had performed under his solo name. He also happily agreed to take part.

When I told Elena that the event would be a performance by the four of us, she replied that she was very much looking forward to it.

The venue will be ENOTN Akasaka Studio, which I will be using for the first time.

It is not what you would typically call a live music venue, but I think it is an ideal space for this event, where we can focus closely on the sounds of the instruments and the individual performances. It is also conveniently located just a short walk from Akasaka Subway Station.

The exact structure of the evening has not yet been decided.

We plan to begin with solo performances by each of the four musicians, giving you an opportunity to experience the individual character of each instrument and artist. We are also planning some kind of session toward the end of the evening.

French horn, trombone, shakuhachi, and bass clarinet.

Four wind instruments that do not often come together in the same place.

What kind of crossroads of sound will they create?

We hope you will come and experience it with us.

We look forward to seeing you there.
